چکیده
Devendra Lal was an Indian nuclear physicist who began his career studying particle physics while a student at the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR) in Bombay, using tracks emulsions to study cosmic ray particles and their interactions. He soon moved on search for radionuclides produced atmosphere by bombardment, independently (with colleagues) discovering radioisotopes Be, P Si them as geophysical tracers atmospheric, meteorological oceanographic processes. His revolved principally around multiple aspects rays, employing theory experiment examine flux, chemical composition energy spectrum, both present past through (for example) studies minerals meteorites lunar samples. played major role developing approaches use terrestrial cosmic-ray-produced isotopes dating tools wide range Earth processes, from biological cycles ocean landscape evolution ice ablation Antarctic. At various stages professor TIFR led geophysics group there, director Physical Laboratory Ahmedabad, India, Scripps Institution Oceanography, University California San Diego. elected fellow numerous scientific organizations academies internationally, recipient many awards prizes.

Psittacosis outbreak in Tayside, Scotland, December 2011 to February 2012.
A Tayside outbreak of psittacosis December 2011–February 2012 involved three confirmed and one probable cases. Confirmed cases were indistinguishable by sequencing of polymerase chain reaction (PCR) products. The epidemiological pattern suggested person-to-person spread as illness onset dates were consistent with the incubation period and no single common exposure could explain the infections. ...
